Rosehill Gardens is a spectacular race track located in Sydney. It is home to some of the most coveted races in Australia including the famous Golden Slipper Stakes. Autumn Racing at Rosehill Gardens
The Autumn Racing Carnival offers spectators 18 Group status events over three consecutive Saturdays. There is $11 million in prize money available at this carnival and as a result, the quality of horses which enter in the races is extremely high.
The marquee event of this carnival is the Golden Slipper Stakes, a $3.5 million race for the best 2 year old horses. Held during April, the 1200m race is an excellent test for young race horses with the potential to become racing greats. As a set weight race, colts and geldings are required to carry 56.5kg and fillies must carry 54.5kg.
The Slipper Stakes is held on one of the biggest racing days known to the industry with another four Group 1 races taking place after the Stakes. The BMW follows with an excellent display of strength and endurance as the best staying horses compete over a 2400 metre race track. Worth $2.25 million in prize money, the weight-for-age race is regarded as the premier long distance race in the carnival.
Following The BMW is the Arrowfield Stud Stakes worth $400,000. This is a 2000m race for 3 year old fillies. With such a long distance, this race demands all the muscle power and speed these young female have. As a set weight race, all fillies must carry 56kg. The George Ryder Stakes is also worth $400,000 in prize money and is a 1500m weight-for-age race. This race is rich in history and is known for bringing together the best sprinters and milers in a heart pumping battle between the best in the business.

Spring Racing at Rosehill Gardens
Sydney’s Spring Racing Carnival begins at Rosehill in August with the 1400m Tooheys New Golden Rose worth $1 million in prize money. According to Spring Racing Carnival News, this is a set weight race for 3 year olds and as a result, colts and geldings must carry 55.5kg and fillies must carry 53.5kg. It is the richest race in the carnival and is regarded as the best race to view the up and coming stars of the track.
The Theo Marks Stakes is held in September and is a quality handicap for horses aged 3 years and over. The horses compete for a share in $200,000 over a 1300m track. With Group 2 status, the race attracts many future Epsom Handicap contenders. Held after the Theo Marks Stakes is the $150,000 Tea Rose Stakes. This is a 1500m Group 2 set weight race for the best 3 year old fillies in NSW. It is often regarded as the best lead up race to the Group 1 Flight Stakes held at Randwick two weeks later.
The Hill Stakes is held on the same day and is also worth $150,000 in prize money. It is a Group 2 weight-for-age race competed over a 1900m racetrack distance. The race attracts a mix of good and ordinary racehorses, making the race extremely interesting to watch. With the largest amount of prize money on the day, the Gloaming Stakes is worth $250,000. Although it is a Group 3 race, it manages to attract the best 3 year old stayers from around the state. It is a set weight event raced over 1800 metres.
